Race abuse man had cocaine

From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Tuesday 30th Mar 2004.

A 27-Year-OLD Asian man was arrested after shouting foul-mouthed, racial abuse at a woman police officer.

Blackburn magistrates heard that when he was searched at the police station, Mohammed Malik was found to be in possession of a small quantity of cocaine.

Malik, of Whalley Range, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to using racially aggravated threatening behaviour, possession of cocaine and failing to surrender to bail.

He was fined £150 and ordered to pay £50 compensation to PC Denise Bolton and £50 costs.

Richard Mitcalf, prosecuting, said that when they attended an address in Westwood Court for the second time in one evening, they found a young lady bleeding profusely from the nose.

When they spoke to Malik, he became abusive and made lewd suggestions to the female officer.

"Clearly these very unpleasant remarks form the basis of the racially aggravated threatening behaviour charge," said Mr Mitcalf.

Clare Knight, defending, said her client had been drinking before the incident.
