Missing girl, 13, is found safe and well

From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Tuesday 30th Mar 2004.

A SCHOOLGIRL who disappeared almost two weeks ago has been found.

Jade Fairbrother, 13, of Barnes Street, Clayton-le-Moors, vanished on Wednesday, March 17, when she left her home address, leading to a police investigation into her whereabouts.

Described as vulnerable by the police, the Hollins Technology College pupil was found yesterday evening in Accrington, a Lancashire Constabulary spokeswoman said today.

Police had earlier appealed for the public's assistance in tracking Jade down. But today officers declined to provide many details of their search, or the circumstances of Jade's disappearance. They said it was important to protect Jade's privacy, due to her age.

Sgt Ian Corbett, of Great Harwood police station said only: "Jade was found in Accrington yesterday evening . Her family are not willing to comment about this matter. They are just pleased that she has been found safe and well."

The search began almost a fortnight ago and few clues came to light as to the girl's whereabouts.

Jade also went missing in February after leaving home for lessons at Hollins Technology College but returned home after 11 hours.
